(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these Ohaus Valor 3000 Xtreme scales a couple years ago, for home use, and I'm satisfied with the value for money. I chose this particular scale for its combination of affordability, range, precision, and support for metric units. I like that this model supports both battery or mains modes of operation. One of the four feet on the scale is a threaded height adjustment, which allows the scale to sit unwaveringly on an uneven counter or bench top. I don't test the calibration of this scale, but it seems sufficiently accurate. The model I purchased is not rated for retail/trade, which involves special regulatory concerns.
Now I will gripe a bit.
I use this scale daily in battery operated mode. The scale has a great auto-off feature, but large air currents or vibrations can defeat it. In order to extend battery life, I often turn the scale off manually. When turning the scale on, there is a tedious five second delay, during which the scale advertises the brand name and firmware version number; then performs a countdown. I don't know what engineering requirement may necessitate the five second countdown, but it is most irritating. Five seconds doesn't sound like much, but when in you're in the flow of daily activity, it's a huge, obvious, nuisance.
Other minor gripes pertain to the battery replacement procedure. The shape of the scale allows it to shed spills, but makes it difficult to hold bottom up. Perhaps I'm being overly cautious by declining to rest the scale on its weighing platform during the battery replacement procedure? The scale has nice, big feet, to give it stability. However, they interfere with removal and replacement of the battery compartment cover. When the battery compartment cover is removed, the batteries jack knife upwards and refuse to lay flat. This eases removal of dead batteries, but confounds replacement of the battery cover once fresh batteries are in place.
The buttons on the control surface seem sturdy, but require excessive force to activate, in my opinion.
If the scale were of lesser height, it would fit more easily in a drawer. As with the battery change procedure, the scale is difficult to pick from a drawer or place in a drawer, because it lacks affordances.
Overall, though, the scale has good features and was favorably priced at the time I bought it. I gather this general scale design was targeted at commercial applications. A commercial user may find favorable some of the qualities that detract from this scale's use in the home, shop, or small laboratory.
