I ordered this on Monday and recieved it Wednesday, which is always nice. I already had a "American Weigh Signature Series Black AWS-100 Digital Pocket Scale, 100 by 0.01 G" with a different retailer's label on it for comparison. I was hoping to get more digits of accuracy because the "old" scale only shows 0.2 grain increments.
The scale does read 0.001 gram (0.002 grain) increments, but the accuracy and repeatablity are questionable. I played with the scale for 10 minutes, weighing various items, to make sure that it was warm. Then I ran a series of on/off scale measurements with a single object (around 99 grains) and recorded the values. I was on a kitchen counter with a heavy top, so the support should have been adiquate and stable. I waited approximately 4-6 seconds for the measurement to stablize before recording the value. I attempted to gently put the object on and off the scale, as I would if I was really using it for the intended purpose.
I recorded 27 "zero" values and 26 "object" values (with the object on the scale). Starting with a tare, the zero values driffed from a high of 3.14 grains to a low of -0.26 grains, the average (Avg) was 1.03 and the standard deviation (SD) was 1.03 (repeated value is coincidental, I checked). The object values drifted from a high of 101.14 to a low of 97.88, the Avg was 99.3 and the SD was 1.03 (again, I checked the equations). If I calculated the difference between the "object" values and the preceding "zero" values, the Avg was 98.29 and the SD was 0.36 (which is better). If I calcuated the difference between the "object" and the next "zero" values, the Avg was 98.22 and the SD was 0.23 (the smallest seen).
Since i wanted to use the scale for powder and it would be difficult to weight it a bunch of times to calculate the differences, so I guess I just got a nice box to put on my shelf.
The old scale always comes back to 0.0 and the scatter is within the resolution of the display when you move it around the platform. It is half the price and more repeatable. BTW, it says the "object" is 98.6 grains. For what I need, repeatability is more important than accuracy. I need piles of powder that are the same size more than a particular size.
So, still looking for a better scale...
