I wanted a probe thermometer with a temperature-based alarm, and that's what I got. Everything works, and although the usage is a little cryptic the manual explains it well and is easily available online if you lose the copy that's included. It has all the usual timer/alarm features also, and the length and heat-resistance of the probe make it oven- and stovetop-handy. Its temperature range covers everything I've ever done in a kitchen, and it can be set to alarm not only when the temperature goes above or below a setpoint, but also if it goes outside a range, which isn't a given with these devices. I had thought of it originally as a bit of a tchotchke, but I use it a lot now, and I'm doing a lot more confectionery, as I don't have to sit and wait and test every few minutes anymore. It appears to have been designed for Celsius and adapted for Fahrenheit (e.g. you can't set it for 234 deg-F, only 233 or 235), but it is accurate in Celsius terms.
