(More customer reviews)First I'll preface this by saying that salter make great scales, I've had them and they've lasted for years. However recently I was looking for a scale with better precision down to 1 gram, enter the Salter Maxview.
In terms of features it's on a par with other Salter cooking scales, decent precision, it's interesting that it also attempts to do liquid weight measurements, something normally done by volume thanks to the differences in the density and specific weight of different liquids, so I'm not entirely sure how accurate or useful that feature is.
So you're thinking, why the 1 star? Well because of one major design oversight by Salter. They've made the scale handle up to 13 pounds of weight, that's quite a lot and you might think this makes it a good scale for handling reasonable sized weights and recipes, it certainly would be if it weren't for the fact that the lovely big display is raised above the level of the scale, in all other scales out there it's well below and the scale platter is raised for good reason. With the Salter it has a lip that just gets in the way of any reasonable to large bowl, or flat surface you might put something on, or even any slightly off shaped object you may wish to weigh. That in turn throws out the measurement, placing a cutting board on top helps a little but really shouldn't be required as it adds clutter in a small kitchen and makes the setup slightly more unstable and prone to inaccuracy as the board will balance off center.
Really I can't imagine how this ever got past the design table at Salter without someone testing this out with something other than metal weights. Taking into account the shape and size of the tools likely to be used with the scale is just as important as how precise it is or how visible it's display is.
For me this is a dealbreaker, and hence why it only gets 1 star. I really wanted to like this scale but if I can't use it to work with when cooking and baking and using medium to larger bowls then it's essentially non-functioning and is no use to me.

The hassle of finding the right-size measuring cup can be a thing of the past thanks to this electronic kitchen scale by Salter. The sleek countertop unit quickly and effortlessly weighs dry ingredients up to 13 pounds (6 kg) in 1/8-ounce increments (1 gram), plus it can measure liquids up to 210 fluid ounces (6000 ml) in increments of 1/8 fluid ounce (1 ml). Weigh food items directly on the scale or, like liquids, in a container (not included). Best of all, the scale's Add & Weigh function allows for weighing multiple ingredients in the same bowl--the scale quickly reverts to zero for each additional item, all of which means time-saving convenience and less dirty dishes to clean. Furthermore, the unit's user-friendly angled control panel provides touch-sensitive buttons (the smooth surface won't collect debris) and a high-contrast backlit display, measuring about 5 by 2 inches (125 mm by 55 mm), with 1-2/5-inch digits for clear viewing. Other highlights include the ability to switch between metric and imperial, a built-in kitchen timer (99 minutes/59 seconds), and a handy room-temperature display. Slim enough to slip into a drawer, yet sleek enough to leave out on the counter for everyday use, the attractive kitchen scale measures approximately 2-4/5 by 9-1/5 by 12 inches.
