(More customer reviews)I have been getting into sausage making and meat curing; and really needed a good scale.
After searching for awhile I came across this one. 44 pound max is more then enough, and the price is about the same for many that only max at about 5 pounds.
After purchasing this here at amazon com from UnbeatableSale, which came to me very fast, I was really surprised 'in a good way' seeing they double packaged my order, as so the scale wouldn't be damaged.
The scale is very strong, built extremely well, beautiful stainless finish to beable to clean very easily. No sharp edges anywhere, as all corners have been sanded and buffed down with nice percision rounded edges. I tend to look for these things being a welder for 18 years.
It is very easy to calibrate too. A big chrome knob just under the weigh tray adjusts the scale to calibrate. You can set to zero but I suggest using a 5 lbs sack of unopened flour or sugar and calibrate that way.
The only assembly is screwing the top tray to the scale, which are butterfly screws with screw mounts welded to the bottom. Very easy and very sturdy. And the welded screws under the tray for mounting seem to be very strong.
I love the fact that its a dial and not electronic, as I dont have to plug in another appliance, or make sure batteries don't go dead on me before using. Not to mention, its a real nice show piece when not using in your kitchen.
This scale measures weight in [Black]Pounds/Ounces [Red]Kilograms/Grams.
My uncle who grew up making sausages and curing alot of meats was very impressed with this scale too. Of course he had to experiment with it and really liked it too. He was very happy to see just how well built it was made, and how accurate the scale is.
I can now weigh out my meats in total confidence, for brining, curing or sausage making; and can see doing this for many years to come with this great scale. Because with out a good scale, its kind of hard to get the right {meat:spice} ratio, to {lean:fat} ratio; or any ratio needed involving weight.
And being 44 lbs I went ahead and bought a few Boston pork butt at about 15 lbs apiece to grind up and make some sausages for the month for me and my uncle. 44 lbs scale is much nicer then constantly shuffling around 5 lbs at a time. All for the same price.
I'll use a smaller scale for weighing spices, and use this beauty for my meats. Although this scale is so accurate I could easily use for smaller spices, which I already have with weighing rib rubs I made up recently.
