(More customer reviews)I own a coffee shop, and bought a CJ-4000 in January 2011, specifically to weigh coffee and coffee flavoring. The most I every weight at a time is one pound. Typically it's 125 grams.
On the face of it, this seems like a great little scale. And it is, until it just stops working, like mine did. It displayed an error that indicated (according to their web site) that I had put too much weight on it. First of all, what scale BREAKS when too much weight is put on it? Their web site says THIS scale will. It does not "overload", or black out, or reset. It BREAKS! They say newer models don't have this problem. I would have to see it to believe it.
OK, stuff breaks. A big reason I bought this scale is that it advertises:
20 YEAR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY!
"If ya have a problem with this scale within the first twenty years ya own it, just send it to the Jennings warranty center. They'll fix or replace your scale, and have it on it's way back to ya within two working days."
NOT TRUE! This scale is less than 6 months old, and, after jumping through all their hoops in returning the scale for warranty repair or replacement, Jennings Scales, the manufacturer, has answered only one of my 6 emails in the last 7 weeks with a perfunctory question: When did you mail it to us? Apparently they lost my scale. Luckily, I sent it via USPS Priority Mail, which had delivery confirmation. Jennings did not even sign the email. GOOD LUCK trying to call. They refer you to the website for technical questions, and if you choose to hold, like I did one day, you can wait, apparently, until the cows come home, while listening to their country music. No one ever picks up!
This scale DID work great, until it broke. Maybe if you just have the occasional use then put it back in the closet it will work for years. Personally, I have since purchased a Pelouze SP5. It is $20 less, weighs in increments of .006 lbs. (1 gram), is battery operated, and has a one year warranty. AND, more importantly, is backed by a REPUTABLE company!
